ANTIOXIDANTS

Monday, December 22, 2008

Antioxidants are substances in the body that help it fight against the destructive activity of free radicals. Free radicals are highly charged molecules that contain unpaired electrons looking for partners. These destructive actisons are believed to lead to cancer, heart disease and cataracts.Substance such as betacarotene and vitamin E, are important antioxidants. So are common household herbs and foods like garlic, ginger, and gingko (gingko biloba).

Garlic is a powerful antibiotic, germicidal and antiseptic substance. It is a simple, popular herb that helps prevent the peroxidation of fatty acids and the formation of other free radical end products by binding them and removing them from the body. One of the effects of heavy metal contamination is the breakdown of red capsules. This hinders the blood's ability to transport oxygen to the tissues and carry CO2 away to the lungs. Studies show that garlic prevents the breakdown process of the red capsules.

Ginger is a warming herb know more in the West for its ability to relieve motion sickness. But current studies show that it has antioxidant properties as well. This was found out by the researchers at the National Cancer Institute's Designer Food Program in the U.S. Researchers believed that ginger contains compounds that neutralize carcinogens.

Gingko biloba is well known for its positive effects in the cardiovascular system in the West. The gingko nut works in the body to increase mental alertness. Gingko has also demonstrated its effectiveness in treating symptoms of chronic cerebral arterial insufficiency including vertigo, headache,tinnitus (ringing in the ears), short-term memory loss,an inability to concentrate and depression.

According to a summary in Medical Nutrition, gingko extract helps halt the deterioration process of the elderly patients. By increasing cerebral blood flow, oxygen and glucose utilization, gingko biloba offers some relief against the side effects of aging. In addition, gingko has long been recognized as a powerful antiasthmatic in traditional Chinese medicine.

What is success?

Friends and family, Found this wonderful piece of philosophy today...copied and pasted it for our day's consumption..or perhaps, make it our words to live by.

"To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
to leave the world a little better;
whether by a healthy child,a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is the meaning of success."

History is Very Interesting

Look what happens when a US President gets elected
in a year with a "0" at the end. Also notice it goes in increments of 20 years.
1840: William Henry Harrison (died in office)
1860: Abraham Lincoln (assassinated)
1880: James A. Garfield (assassinated)
1900: William McKinley (assassinated)
1920: Warren G. Harding (died in office)
1940: Franklin D. Roosevelt (dies in office)
1960: John F. Kennedy (assassinated)
1980: Ronald Reagan (survived assassination attempt)
2000: George W. Bush ????????????

And to think that we had two guys fighting it out in the courts to be the one elected in 2000.
You might also be interested in this.
Have a history teacher explain this----- if they can.
Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.

John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird.
Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.

Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.
Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.

Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.'

Kennedy was shot in a car called 'Lincoln' made by 'Ford.'

Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a
warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater.
Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

And here's the kicker.......

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe..

Flightless Bird by Iron and Wine

Sunday, December 7, 2008

I was a quick wet boy, diving too deep for coins
All of your street light eyes wide on my plastic toys
Then when the cops closed the fair, I cut my long baby hair
Stole me a dog-eared map and called for you everywhere

Have I found you
Flightless bird, jealous, weeping or lost you, american mouth
Big pill looming

Now I'm a fat house cat
Nursing my sore blunt tongue
Watching the warm poison rats curl through the wide fence cracks
Pissing on magazine photos
Those fishing lures thrown in the cold
And clean blood of Christ mountain stream

Have I found you
Flightless bird, grounded, bleeding or lost you, american mouth
Big pill stuck going down

My photo
I am a woman with simple dreams. I'm easy to be with, friendly, most of the time jolly but sometimes moody, loving and sweet. I love sharing my stories of life and somehow I want other people to learn something from me.
