10 Things You Don't Know About Hair

Sunday, May 22, 2011

Being a woman, one of the best assets that I could think of is our hair. My mom said that I have this very good hair strands since I was a child but upon aging and reaching my high school days, it became less healthy, I could say. Why? Because I have this bald top, the one that if you are on the top seat next to mine, you would laugh seeing my top head. There you could see my scalp directly. I have used all possible shampoos and techniques that I could think of and others recommended but theres no way of bringing it back to my old good hair. I don't even know the main reason why I got this problem but I am thankful of course that my hair is still straight even the strands are thin. I am worrying of brushing my hair because of hair falling. I am afraid that it could make my problem worse. Last year I got my hair curled, then after that I got my hair rebonded. Some says it is not advisable but I take all the risk in the name of beautification. Well, experiments are not bad and as I've learned that my baldness could be hided, making styles different hair styles.
As I was browsing some magazines, this trivia portion caught my attention because of my interests on hair researches and informations. It is sometimes good to read some trivias and make sounds like "ahh that's it!" or "oww, is that true?" My brother keeps on laughing at me when I am on that mood of reading because he said it was just me, reading but its like as if  I am talking with someone. Here we go guys, just read and be amazed. :D
1. Children loose an average of 90 strands of hair a day. This count increases to 120 for adults.
2. Scalp hairs grow at a rate of 1 to  1.5 cm per year.
3. The average scalp has 100 thousand to 150 thousand hairs.
4. The life expectancy of hair is 3 years or over 60 cm.
5. Hair is the second fastest growing tissue in the body after bone marrow.
6. A single hair strand can support up to 100 grams in weight and a whole head of hair can support up to 12 tons-equivalent to 2 african elephants.
7. Africans and Europeans are more prone to balding than Asians.
8. The word shampoo comes from the Hindi CHMPN which means to massage or knead.
9. 1 cm of your hair holds all your personal record of the past month. What you ate, drank and the environments your were in.
10. Melanin gives hair its color. These are made up of dark (eumelanins) and yellow (phaeomelanins) granules called melanocytes that mix together to obtain different shapes of hair color.

Hair Rebond or Hair Relax?

Thursday, September 9, 2010

"Hair is referred to as the crowning glory of a woman"

Yeah, I know this is very very true. I used to take a second glance when I am seeing ladies with beautiful, long, shiny, black, straight hair. I don't know why, but it always happens automatically. I could only say to myself that maybe I have this sort of desires of having the same hair.
For a very long time, I always have this plan of having a hair treatment. I just have a little doubt about it. I don't know how my hair will react on the treatment and I am afraid of suffering from hair loss or hair damage or something. I actually have this problem on hiding my bald top since college. My mom told me that I have a great hair since I was a kid. My dad loves my hair long and straight so I don't have any hair style other than straight long hair with straight cut ends, not until college. I got my hair cut in different styles but maintained it long. I have classmates who could afford regular hair treatments and since then I planned on having the same but until now I can't find my guts on that matter. Maybe because of my busy schedules plus tight budget but if I could have time one of these days, I will be visiting a salon. I am interested on this hair rebond or hair relax thing and got my research on these two process of treatment. Here it is:

Hair rebond and hair relax are both hair straightening treatment. It makes your hair straight ofcourse and mostly, the solutions being used for both process are the same. They differs only on how they are applied.
Relax involves application of the straigthening solution with light hair ironing taking an hour or more depending on your hair lenght while rebond involves repeated application of straightening solutions combined with heavy ironing of thin strands of hair which will take about 4 or more hours.
Rebonding effects should be permanent except when hair regrows while relax is temporary and can last only about two to three months but sometimes it depends on how you take good care of your hair. Like any other beauty treatments, it requires regular maintenance (hot oil, hair spa, etc.) to keep it straight and healthy. But the best thing to do is to visit a reputable salon to make sure that your hair could have the best treatment and also were using branded solutions from well known manufacturers.

Hmm, based on my keen observing, rebonding is much expensive than hair relaxing but surely it is very much worth it. Hopefully, before this year ends, I could fulfill this one.

Hairstyles that flatter your faces

Sunday, March 29, 2009

Thinking of new hairstyles? Well, maybe the following can help you decide on what style will you have. The thing is you must know first what is the real shape of your face.
OVAL
Oval face shapes are perfectly in proportion, with features nicely balanced and a narrow forehead tapering into a small chin via wide, defined cheekbones. Be as daring as you wish: short, long, one-length, layers, fringes, up, off the face, or even shaved. All suit you, as you’ve no need to compensate for any dominant or weak points.
HEART

Similar to the oval, but the top half of the face is wider and narrows below the cheekbones to a delicate, yet pointed chin. Curls and waves introduced around level with the cheek bones will widen the appearance of the chin and jaw bone and make the face appear better proportioned and essentially oval.Avoid a sleek, jaw-length bobs that hug the chin, though flicked-out ends will create a more balanced outline. Again a fringe is an option.
ROUND

The face is full-cheeked and circular. Keep hair sleek at the sides and lengthen the face by choosing a hairdo with plenty of volume on top. Bardotesque ‘60s-influenced styles with a bit of backcombing at the roots are ideal.
Avoid curved or geometric styles, as they will only accentuate roundness. Also avoid hard lines and wide, block fringes that finish just above the eyebrows.
Feathered or layered hair falling onto the face will help create sleeker proportions and sweepingfringes will have a slimming effect. Keep curly hair all one length and ideally long to avoid bulk. Full curls accentuate roundness, but high ponytails and up-dos with loose tendrils around the hairline and sides are all options.
SQUARE
A broad forehead and a strong square or angular jawline dominate your face. Slim those broad cheekbones with long styles and chin-length layers. Fringes will focus attention on your eyes: opt for longer, broken up, full ones or wispy half fringes. Textured bob cuts, which fall onto the face, and curls kissing the cheeks, will both slim down the widest points of the face and help re-balance it.
LONG
Characteristically includes a high forehead, a thin face and a well-defined, long chin. Avoid one-length, straight hair and middle partings, as perfect symmetry will make any face look longer, a side parting will be much more flattering.
Keep it soft by breaking up the length with layers at eye and cheekbone level to create texture. A curly bob or long style will shorten the length of the face.
A side parting will create an illusion of fullness. If your hair has a slight wave, use a diffuser with your hairdryer to emphasize the curls, as adding volume below the chin will balance things out a bit.
ANGULAR-DIAMOND SHAPE
A fusion of square and heart proportions. Chin-length bobs and feathered, shoulder-length styles will emphasize those dramatic, angular planes while rounding out the chin. Heavy fringes are a good look,as are flicks or a mane of disheveled curls.
