Chandelier Cake

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

I can't imagine that this glamorous chandelier is a yummy cake. Last week I've been on a Bakery Show at Worldtrade Center Manila and mesmerized by this featured cake. Using my cellphone, I can't stop the urge of taking this photo. Actually I have taken photos of other cakes which I will be posting next to this. They are all beautiful and I can't imagine how these bakers have done such decorations. In this particular cake, they say that this Chandelier Cake is a manifestation of Filipino's world class talent, creative skills and love for baking and cake decorating. The chandelier is a popular decorative figure found in palaces and homes of the nobility which symbolizes beauty in its scintillating jewels.

Managing Office Politics

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Where there is group interaction and power, there is politics and the workplace is no exemption. And just like any other politics, this one has only one cause, the desire for more power.
Although there is no way for a person to avoid this, you can still survive the situation. Practice the following tips and you will find yourself impossible to get drifted by the current of political waters.
Be a person of virtue
The best way to make your colleagues show kindness is to set an example. Be gracious and respectful and show that you know what office etiquette is.
Never stoop to their level
No matter how vicious office politics could get, be fair. Don’t take it personally. Deal with the issue, not with the individual.
Treat all your officemates equally
Never make your subordinates or colleagues feel that you have favorites. Always make it clear that everyone is important in the development of the company.
Stay out of the problem
A gossip exists because people talk about things that they should not care about. Now, don’t add fuel to the fire by paying attention to the gossip mongers. Remember, nobody talks if nobody listens.
Don’t start a grudge match
As the saying goes, to err is human, to forgive is divine. People commit mistakes and you cannot change that. Retaliating will only make matters worse. So if you have been wronged, all you have to do is to forgive and move on.

Handbag

Thursday, February 19, 2009

In going out like, going to malls, hanging out with friends, going to work and etc., I use to bring my ever heavy bag. I also prefer on bringing larger one for my things to fit in. I am the kind of person that cannot go out without this and without that (always ready like a girl scout), so even how heavy my bag will be, I will still bring it as long as I have all my things on it. Even if I am not going to use all the things inside, I still feel comfortable on bringing it because for all I know, there are some emergencies in our everyday life that we will be needing things and it is always feel good if you have bring a thing. For example is when going out without my umbrella in my bag (folded one) that I use to bring everyday and missed to bring it on the day when I am having an emergency field work, I will regret on not bringing it because umbrella still is usable under the rain or even under the sun. But as it is said that too much is not always as good as we thought because I have read this article:

A full handbag can weigh as much as 10 pounds, so it's no surprise that carrying one over your shoulder can cause neck and shoulder problems. Try to keep your bag as light as possible and alternate it between shoulders regularly. Better still, opt for a smaller bag that you can swap back and forth from hand to hand.

Oh, what now?

Talking about Headaches

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

I have been working in a private company for about 3 years now. In my working life, I am spending hours in front of computers and after a year I experienced terrible headaches that I can't stand and need to close my eyes for minutes to ease a little pain. I was thinking then what was causing this headaches and my office mates advised me to see an ophthalmologist. The next day, I went to the nearest one and find out that my eyes was the one causing that headaches. They advised me to wear reading glasses. I have read the below article and decided to share it to readers and maybe a little can help. :)

Eyestrain, stress and hormonal shifts are fairly common causes of headaches which afflicts millions of people (most are women) but sometimes the usual suspects don't explain that pain in our head. Well, some triggers are just plain weird like the following:
Perfumes
Strong odors may activate the nose's nerve cells which stimulate the nerve system associated with head pain. Ironically, the offending scents are often pleasant. In this case, avoid perfumes, strong household cleansers, fragrant soaps, shampoos and air fresheners. But the problem nowadays is that almost what wee see in markets are scented. Medicines can help too, like aspirin, acetaminophen and caffeine. But there are some side effects also, because if we will be a medicine dependent, it will cause the aches to come again as soon as the effect of med wear off.
Weather
Studies show that headaches-prone are especially attuned to weather changes. The meteorological shifts are thought to trigger chemical and electrical changes in brain that irritate nerves.
Earrings, headbands and ponytails
The muscle groups around the scalp don't have pain fibers, but their connective tissues do. Ponytail headaches result when tightly pulled hair irritates the muscle system. Tight fitting hats, headbands and heavy earrings also causes pain. In the case of earrings, it's possible that earrings can pull on that same connective tissue. Some studies suggest that skin sensitivity around the scalp, face, ears often accompanies migraine.
Hunger
Eating several small meals a day keeps our blood sugar on an even keel. Dieting, fasting, skipping lunch can cause to bottom us to bottom out and may trigger headache. If suffering from moderate, severe or frequent headaches, consult a headache specialist about your diet.

"Love at First Sight" Thing

Saturday, February 14, 2009

Do you believe in “love at first sight”? If someone’s going to ask me this kind question, I will definitely say “yes!” Why? Well, maybe because I am a hopeless romantic person and a romance novel addict. I do watch movies too, which happen to have that theme and I think it’s not bad if you fall in love for the first time you laid your eyes on a person. Why, if you have that what we call chemistry, why are you going to ignore it?

A recent study showed that the first few minutes (10 minutes below) of meeting someone has a huge influence on the course the relationship will ultimately take. Romantic relationships begin with people making judgments very quickly. Well, things do happen and if you believe in miracles then you probably believe in this saying too.

If you want to rev up your “first site” vibe and add a little spice to that few minutes, the following tips maybe can help:
1. Wear red or blue. For women who want to create an on-the-spot thrill, wearing red is the way to go. According to color experts, red is the most stimulating color you can wear. In fact, wearing or seeing red actually increases blood flow and mimics attraction.
If you’re a guy, your best bet is to go true blue. Beatrice Eiseman, Director of the Pantone Color Institute, says women are attracted to men wearing the color blue. She explains that guys who frequently wear blue are “stable, faithful and always there”. (aha, I will look for a guy wearing blue..lol)
2. Smile. Psychology and body language experts agree that smiling is one of the fastest and best ways to make you more attractive and approachable. It’s not necessary to look like you’re trying out for “Ms. Close Up Smile” but just your usual “I’m happy to be here and I’m having a fantastic time” face will do a trick. (So guys, just smile.. :))
3. Instant Chemistry. A study at the University of Chicago has shown that men associate the scents of cinnamon and vanilla with love. To kick-start your allure, women can wear a cinnamon-vanilla scented lotion or perfume. Wearing a cinnamon/vanilla blends increases the presence of pheromone-like substances and dramatically increases attraction. (i will start looking for this cinnamon/vanilla scents)

TROUBLE SLEEPING?

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Do you have trouble sleeping? Or do you have problems going back to sleep? Here are some tips to help improve your sleeping habits.

Tip #1: Keep a regular schedule
Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time everyday, even on weekends. This will program your body to expect sleep at the same time each day.
Tip #2: Avoid eating heavy meals just before sleeping
This may cause indigestion and may disrupt your normal sleeping pattern. Drinking too much fluid before bedtime can cause you to go to the bathroom during the night.
Tip #3: Get out of bed if unable to sleep
Worrying about falling asleep actually keeps many people awake. Get up, and go to another room and do something relaxing until you feel sleepy.
Tip #4: Keep your bedroom peaceful and comfortable
Your room is a place to sleep and rest. Make sure it is well-ventilated and free from noise.
Tip #5: Avoid doing anything stimulating a couple of hours before bedtime
This keeps the body alert, thus, making it harder to fall asleep.

Have a good night sleep everyone... :)

Underneath It All by No Doubt

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

I heard this song once when my brother lend me his mp4 player... I love the tunes and the lyrics also...just sharing..hope you will like it too...I find this one relaxing and I used to listen every night before I sleep... :) maybe because of the singer's voice or the music itself...its for you to judge..just give me your reaction.

Underneath IT all - No Doubt

There's times where I want something more
Someone more like me
There's times when this dress rehearsal
Seems incomplete
But, you see the colors in me like no one else
And behind your dark glasses you're...
You're something else

Chorus:
You're really lovely
Underneath it all
You want to love me
Underneath it all
I'm really lucky
Underneath it all
You're really lovely

You know some real bad tricks
And you need some discipline
But, lately you've been trying real hard
And giving me your best
And, you give me the most gorgeous sleep
That I've ever had
And when it's really bad
I guess it's not that bad

(Repeat Chorus)

So many moons that we have seen
Stumbling back next to me
I've seen right through and underneath
And you make me better
I've seen right through and underneath
And you make me better
Better... better...

Lady Saw:
You are my real Prince Charmin'
Like the heat from the fire
You were always burnin'
And each time you're around
My body keeps stalin'
For your touch
Your kisses and your sweet romancin'
There's an underside to you
That so many adore
Aside from your temper
Everything else secure
You're good for me, baby
Oh that, I'm sure
Over and over again
I want more

Gwen:
You've used up all your coupons
And all you've got left is me
And somehow I'm full of forgiveness
I guess it's meant to be

(Repeat Chorus)

You're really lovely
Underneath it all
You want to love me
Underneath it all
I'm really lovely
Underneath it all
And you're really lovely
